Safety and Risk Assessment
  • Hazard Management
Most risk assessments present a snapshot of the controls in place for a hazard at a particular moment in time. What is missing is the link between the controls as they are today and the system in place for ensuring they will continue to be effective tomorrow.

  • Oil & Gas Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Cases
Risktec's HSE Case capability for the oil and gas industry includes both Safety Cases to comply with legislation, such as in the North Sea, and integrated HSE cases to meet operators' corporate standards. Our capability encompasses the entire faclity life-cycle, from development of high level "option study" HSE Cases for design phases of projects, through commissioning, operation, combined operations and decommissioning.

  • Hazard Identification & Assessment
Hazard Identification is the first and, in many ways, the most important step in a risk assessment. If a hazard is not identified, its contribution to risk cannot be estimated and is unlikely to be managed with any confidence.

  • Qualitative/Deterministic Safety Assessment
Engineering design requirements for hazardous facilities are becoming increasingly challenging, with operators demanding the highest levels of safety integrity as well as higher production throughputs and more flexibility.

  • Quantitative/Probabilistic Risk Assessment
Risktec is a specialist in quantifying risk, from quick, coarse studies to detailed assessments. Many of our professionals have design, operations and management backgrounds, and this experience is use to interpret results and provide recommendations for real and cost-effective risk reduction and control.

  • Nuclear Safety Cases
Risktec provides a comprehensive service for the production and presentation of all levels of documentation for safety cases to satisfy teh requirements of the Nuclear Installations Inspectorate and other national and international regulatory bodies.

  • Defence Safety Cases
Risktec provides a comprehensive service for the production, presentation and ongoing support of all levels of documentation for safety cases to satisfy the requirements of defence industry organisations.

  • Risk Modelling and Quantification
Many decisions can be made on the basis of qualitative views of risk. Where the situation is particularly complex or the probability of the risk very low but the impact very high, it is often necessary to model and quantify the risk. Risktec provides highly flexible processes to quantifying risks. These are based on the technical understanding of the ‘system’ and are fully customisable, from single assets or operations to large portfolios. Our analysts build models for risk scenarios using tools for standard analysis and risk presentation, supported by transparent rules and data.

  • Oil & Gas Health, Safety and Environmental (HSE) Cases
The HSE Case illustrates how the company makes sure its operations are carried out without endangering personnel, the environment, the asset or the Company’s reputation. It demonstrates to the company’s management, its clients, shareholders, workforce and regulators that essential controls are in place, such that major HSE risks are tolerable and reduced to as low as reasonably practicable (ALARP).

  • COMAH Safety Reports
The process and chemical industries have been subject to increasingly stringent safety legislation, the latest being COMAH, the UK's implementation of the Seveso ll European Directive.

  • Railway Safety
The rail industry is going through a period of major change, with an emphasis on restoring public confidence in railway safety and improving train performance. Organisations throughout the industry are focused on working together to create a safer and more efficient rail network.

  • Availability, Reliability and Maintainability
ARM analysis allows the plant or equipment owner to determine the likelihood of plant failure and the time necessary to return the plant to an operational state. This allows the owner to meet availability targets for production throughput, have sufficient spares and maintenance personnel, and ensure ease of maintenance.

  • Occupied Building Risk Assessment
The risks to occupants of buildings on and around major hazard sites have been highlighted over the years by accidents at Flixborough, Grangemouth, Castleford and Pembroke. In response to these events, the Chemical Industries Association (CIA) published goal setting guidelines for the assessment of the risks to people in occupied buildings. Risktec and our strategic alliance partners provide a comprehensive and integrated safety risk and structural engineering service to identify, evaluate and manage occupied building risk.

  • Independent Technical Assessment
Risktec has wide experience in many industries of providing independent technical assessments for safety, design and business decision makers. In each of these areas Risktec provides teams of specialists who are able to understand the technical basis of the decision, risk or safety case. The strength of these teams is based upon their ability to perform any of the technical studies being assessed, combined with the key capability of identifying and presenting clearly the major problems or concerns. We provide advice and recommendations in an unbiased manner based upon the knowledge and wide ranging experience of our professional staff, who combine advanced technical qualifications with practical experience.
